"I was luck enough to have Helen as a teacher and mentor when I took her courses in animal communication. Helen is one of the most gifted, spiritual teachers around"

"A lady with a great all round open minded attitude to many spiritual topics. A long time tutor that is truthfully sincere in her work"
This guide has been shaped by the lived experience of mediums at various stages of their journey. When asked "What's something you wish someone had taught you at the very beginning of your development?", a vibrant community came together to share their most heartfelt reflections. What follows are the themes that emerged — offered here with warmth, to help you begin your own journey with greater ease and confidence.
This was the most recurring theme in the community. Personal development — learning self-acceptance, addressing insecurities, building self-confidence, setting healthy boundaries, and practising self-love — is not separate from mediumship development. It is the development. And importantly, it is a lifelong, continuous process, not a box to tick before you begin.
Learning to trust that initial impression — and releasing the fear of making mistakes — is one of the most transformative shifts a developing medium can make. Getting things wrong is part of the process. It quiets the ego and opens the door to genuine service.
Your unique way of thinking, feeling, and working is a strength — not something to be corrected or moulded into someone else's style. Imagination is one of your greatest assets, not a distraction. You don't have to look like anyone else to be an effective medium.
Worrying about how you appear to others is one of the greatest obstacles to natural, flowing development. Approach your practice with a spirit of curiosity and playfulness. Joy is not a luxury in this work — it is a signpost that you are on the right path.
The heart is the gateway to your own power. Vulnerability and emotional openness are not weaknesses — they are the very qualities that allow a deeper connection with the spirit world. Dare to open yourself, even when it feels uncomfortable.
Regular, consistent "sitting in the power" — quietly attuning yourself to spirit — is far more valuable than attending a hundred different workshops and courses. It is the foundation of all genuine development. Prioritise stillness and practice over accumulating techniques.
Especially in the early stages, spiritual development can feel disorientating or overwhelming. Learning to ground yourself and protect your energy is not optional — it is essential. Make grounding a regular, daily habit from the very start.
Progress in mediumship does not follow a straight line. It moves in cycles. There will be breakthroughs followed by apparent setbacks, plateaus, and moments when nothing seems to be working. This is completely normal. The difficult periods are often where the deepest growth happens.
This is not a test you have to pass. Over-efforting, striving, and judging your own progress can become the very things that block your connection. Surrender, listen, and trust. Paradoxically, relaxing around the connection tends to strengthen it.
Many new students compare themselves unfavourably to others and feel they are somehow falling short. You are not worse than other developing mediums. You are exactly where you need to be. Development takes time, and your path unfolds at precisely the pace that is right for you.
You will have many teachers throughout your journey. When the time comes that a particular teacher or group no longer resonates with you, that is not a failure — it is a sign of growth. Trust that the right teachers will appear when you need them, and trust yourself to know when it is time to move on.
Judgement — of others and especially of yourself — creates noise that interferes with your development. As you cultivate peace and balance within, you will find your connection deepens naturally. Choose peace over drama, and compassion over criticism, at every opportunity.
The wisdom gathered here points, again and again, toward the same truth: the most important work in mediumship development happens within. Tend to your inner world with the same care and dedication you bring to your spiritual practice, and trust that the rest will unfold in its own perfect time.
"This is an outstanding work. I am thankful to have taken the course. Thank you, Helen, for putting this course together and for sharing this course with the world. I see the radiance of your soul! I bow to the Divine in you!" Outstanding work!"
